How to Install and Activate the Payroll Tax Updates

Where to download and how to install and activate the payroll tax update?


Sage publishes tax updates for only two versions of payroll, currently 7.2, with either Sage300 Version 2014, 2016, or Payroll 7.3 with Sage300 Version 2017.  (see Payroll Version Information)  Download the tax update from one of the following locations or contact a support technician to assist.

Save the tax update on the server in the shared data location, so it is accessible for installation on all workstations.  It is necessary to install the update on all workstations where Sage 300 is installed. The best time to do the installation is after the last payroll is run for December, and before the first payroll is processed in January. (or after the last payroll in June and before the first payroll in July)

Logon to the workstation as the administrator and browse to the tax update file. Double click to launch the install and follow the prompts, accepting the defaults.  It is no longer necessary to run the regacc.exe utility to register the program files, because this is now built into the tax update install. 

Although installed, the update is not yet in use. It must be activated in the database. All modules linking to payroll will be disabled until the update is activated.  Logon to Sage 300 as the ADMIN user, and backup your database. The dbdump function under Administrative Services is recommended. see Backup Sage300 Data Using Database Dump for detailed information on this procedure)  Ensure no other users are in the database and go to Administrative Services / Data Activation.  Select the payroll update and click Activate.  Once the process is completed, you can verify the successful activation by clicking on Help / System Information and confirming that the tax update has a red check mark beside it. 

New tax information is now loaded and ready for payroll calculation.  Note that installing and activating the payroll tax update does not automatically update the TD1 values for the employees.  Find some information on that process click here Update TD1 Values
