Error 49153 when logging into Sage 300

Problem Details:

User is getting error 49153 Cannot connect to database, when logging into Sage.



One of the most common causes for this error is the Windows Firewall blocking SQL Server.  On the database server, open the Windows Firewall (Control Panel, Windows Firewall) and on the left hand pane, click on the option to 'Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall'.  In the 'Allowed programs and features' box, scroll down to see if SQL Server and SQL Server Browser are selected.  If not, click on Add Another Program, and then Browse.  Browse to the location of the sqlservr.exe and then click Open and Add.  Do the same for the sqlbrowser.exe file.  Select the checkboxes for Work, Domain, Public settings and click on OK. 

In order to find the correct path to the executable files, go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services.  Highlight the SQL Server or the SQL Server Browser service and right click / Properties.  The 'Path to executable' is located on the General tab.  Use this path when setting the exception rule in Windows Firewall.
