Import fails - Account Code cannot be blank

Problem Details:

Using an Excel file to import a GL batch and import fails on Journal Header at record 0:  "Account code cannot be blank" .

Solution:

Many import errors are simpler to work around than to troubleshoot.  In the above example, there are no account codes in a journal header, so finding out what is wrong exactly will be time-consuming.

One of the best workarounds is to change the file to a single CSV or a CSV file for import.  Open a GL Batch (or whatever function is being imported) and export some data into one of the CSV formats.  Transfer the data from the original Excel import file to the CSV file and save and close the CSV file.  Click on File / Import and in the Type field, change from Excel to Single CSV or CSV, whichever file has been created.  Often an Excel file which errors on import, once converted to a CSV file will import successfully, without changing any data.  The reverse of this workaround is also true.  A CSV file which errors on import, once converted to an Excel file will import successfully, without changing any data.  This is possibly due to formatting issues.
